Rock County Thresheree
Over labor day weekend one of the local events is the Thresheree. Most of the event revolves around the steam engine, and there are many people from around the area that come to show off their steam engine tractors or other equipment. It’s basically a tribute to technology of the past, and some of these tractors are rather interesting to watch work.
So, here are a few of the pictures I took of the event. Unfortunately as it is a whole weekend event and I was only able to go on Monday, a lot of the show was packed up or being packed up as we walked around.
This is one of the several hand-crank drills that were on display, and one of the workers was allowing whoever wanted to to try his hand at drilling.
Just some more drills with some different style cranks, they are actually relatively easy to drill holes in even metals less than a half inch thick, but once you start getting to a certain thickness it gets to be rather labor intensive.
Before we got to the manual drills there was a tractor parade of sorts, where I took several pictures of some of the older tractors.
Keep in mind that most of these tractors are actually original manufacturing, and some are over 100 years old. I would imagine that components have been replaced over time but I do not have all the information on that. None the less the chassis is over 100 years old, which is impressive in itself.
These two shots are to show a bit more detail about the complexity of the engines these have. It’s amazing that there are so many moving parts here and they still manage to function.
I just liked the way this one looked, it’s almost like someone pulled an old furnace out of their home and put it on the front of the tractor. I also was surprised by how much the canopy rocked back and forth as the tractor moved up the hill
I have several more but in the end they are all pictures of tractors and look about the same. If you are interested in seeing more let me know and I’ll post some more pictures up here. There was a “classic” car show as well, which consisted of only a few cars, but these are the two that I have decent shots of.
Again if you want to see more pictures of some other tractors from the show, let me know in the comments below. Same goes if you want larger sizes of all of these pictures; leave a comment or send me an e-mail.
I have always found these old tractors to be fascinating, and impressive that with so many moving parts they still manage to function today.
